1942-2007
August 30, 2007 . It is with deep regret that we must inform you of the
passing of Michael Jackson, the Beer Hunter, who died this morning at his
home in London, UK.
Jackson dedicated more than three decades to the pursuit and documentation
of the world's finest beers, and wrote many books on the subject.
He became known as the most widely-published and influential author on beer.
He developed a cult television series known as "The Beer Hunter", and
contributed articles to countless magazines and newspapers. Jackson was
especially well-known for his particular passion for the specialty brews of
Belgium, and his bestseller The Great Beers of Belgium.
Beer writer Roger Protz said: "He was the best - and always will be the
best. His knowledge of beer is unsurpassable. His genius was to to be able
to write simply and beautifully about beer. "He was a very private person
but I enjoyed his company - he always had a really amusing story to tell
about his travels."

Personal Story with Michael Jackson
In 1990, after touring several Canadian microbreweries with Michael
Jackson, Michael finally came down to visit my brewery in Helen, Georgia.
After a two hour car ride, my partners and I got to know the true Michael
Jackson. He told us how much he enjoyed local foods and local people, not 5
star restaurants. So, after a evening of drinking beer and eating german
bratwurst, the following morning, we took him to a local Waffle House so he
could experience all the different ways you can experience hash browns. He
took alot of notes on how hash browns can be served scattered, smootherd,
covered, topped, and chunked and enjoyed talking to the cook. He had to
catch a flight at 9:00 the following morning, but we will never forget that
Waffle House breakfast.
